HERE WE GO AGAIN

Now you may or may not know this but a new American restaurant is about to pop up in Lagos, Nigeria.( where else but VI). Its called Johnny Rockets. Now according to wikipedia, Johnny Rockets is an American restaurant franchise whose concept is to create a classic American restaurant atmosphere. The theme is the diner-style restaurant. Decor includes  individual jukebox stations, chrome accents and red vinyl seats. The staff at some locations are known to sing and dance every half-hour. Making a smiley face with ketchup on the paper plate when served American fries is a Johnny Rockets trademark.

Now I have no beef with Johnny rockets(pun intended) but what does tick me off is the fact that indigenous Nigerian brands will do nothing to compete with these guys, there is literally no competition. I mean who is really making burgers in these parts? Real Burgers not the bread, meat and mayonnaise we're all used to. Yes you could say they have a niche market for burgers, fries and milkshakes, and our Naija fast food joints have a more diverse menu included our local favorites. But, of those favorites, which one are they getting well sef. How many of us would actually go get eba and egusi at a fast food place, when there Iya Bisi at the junction near your house. Point? These guys create a niche, master it and STICK TO IT. Over here we are jack of all trade, master of very few (Sweet sensation rice and chicken is the ISH!!) They dont try to do all because they have the facilities for all. Johnny rockets don't make pizzas, but i'm sure they could if they wanted to. They would rather stick to what they do best and strike out what they can do ordinarily.

The essence of my ramble? I just wish we as a nation would focus more on developing and perfecting what we know how to do best (looting and corruption not included) and less on what we can copy from those who have perfected their craft. With that said, the next time I'm in lag, you can be sure i'll be visiting a (the) Johnny rockets...GBAM!
